Yumi Katsura showcased 2018 S&S Couture Collections on February 20, 2018 at the State Guest House, Akasaka Place. Th theme is “Beyond East and West” showing Japan’s
Innovative and Creative Traditional Craftmanship to the World.
The State Guest House, Akasaka Palace was originally built as the official residence of the Crown Prince in 1909 at the former site of the Edo residence of Tokunaga family of Kii province. It is the only Neo-Baroque Western Palace in Japan and was constructed through the efforts of the best architects, artists and craftsmen of that time. After WW II, Japan started to accept more VIPs from abroad as it rejoined the international community and established closer international ties.
The objective of this event is to promote “the fusion of East and West” in apparel culture, by incorporating Japanese traditional craftsmanship and culture in Western clothing. Holding this event at the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace, which exemplifies Japan’s sophisticated style in Western architecture, will generate synergy for showcasing the excellence of both East and West.
This is the first time ever that the State Guest House, Akasaka Palace will be used for a fashion show.
